The numbers that define Nolimit City

Start with the one Nolimit City spec sheet on SlotSpecs and the studio’s character is already clear:

TitleRTPVolatilityMax winRelease date
Duck Hunters96.05%Extreme30,000x11 February 2025

An Extreme volatility rating, a top award of 30,000x the bet and a hit frequency of 17.07% tell you most of what you need to know. The studio builds games where the bulk of spins return nothing and the value is packed into rare runs. Themes are often dark or set out to provoke, and the rules lean on mechanics Nolimit City has trademarked. It releases fewer titles than most big studios, and each one usually turns on a single central idea you can follow.

Inside Duck Hunters

Duck Hunters takes the scatter-pays cascade, a format more closely tied to other studios, and rebuilds it the Nolimit City way. Each grid cell carries its own multiplier, which doubles whenever a winning symbol is removed from that cell. Those values clear after every base-game spin but are kept during bonus rounds. Bombs, xWays symbols and the Day boosters are all there to drive cell values upwards, to a ceiling of x8,192 on each position.

The 30,000x top award is above the 25,000x limit that is common across Pragmatic Play’s recent releases.

What Extreme volatility means in practice

Extreme sits one step above the High label that many studios treat as their top rating. Over the long run, returns gather in a handful of very large results, separated by long spells where little or nothing comes back.

Each Nolimit City game page states an RTP and a max win for that title. In the case of Duck Hunters, the game page notes lower configurations reported to go down to 92.04%, against the 96.05% top setting. Every build looks identical on screen, so the in-game information panel is where to confirm which version you are playing.

xMechanics, explained

Evolution collects the studio’s trademarked features under the xMechanics banner. These are the ones that show up most in game names:

  • xWays. One symbol splits open to show several copies of the same paying symbol, raising the number of ways the spin can pay.
  • xNudge. When a wild lands only partly on screen, it nudges up or down until the reel is covered, adding one to its multiplier on every nudge.
  • xBomb. A wild blows up and wipes the nearby symbols, leaving room for replacements to fall in.
  • xSplit. Named by Evolution as a member of the same family and used in game titles.

They share one principle. Each one reshapes the grid mid-spin, so neither the count of ways nor the multiplier is settled when the reels come to rest. Because titles such as San Quentin xWays and Fire in the Hole xBomb carry the mechanic in the name, a game’s core feature is often obvious before you load it.

A 2014 studio inside Evolution

Evolution gives 2014 as the year Nolimit City was set up. When Evolution agreed the purchase in June 2022, co-founder Jonas Tegman was quoted in the announcement, and the transaction completed in August 2022. That made Nolimit City Evolution’s fourth slot brand, next to NetEnt, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming.

Around the time of the sale, Yogonet reported that the studio had offices in Malta, in Stockholm and in Gurugram, India. Evolution’s statement named Mental, San Quentin and East Coast/West Coast, and spoke of "sometimes provocative themes and a humorous touch".

iGaming Business pointed to how rarely the studio puts out new games. Our demo network carries 96 Nolimit City titles, a slimmer library than most of the large studios we profile.

Should you play Nolimit City?

It makes sense if you enjoy learning one mechanic in depth and can accept a virtual coin balance shrinking for long spells. Players drawn to unusual or darker themes will also find more here than elsewhere. It is the wrong choice if you prefer steady sessions, regular small returns or bright, friendly artwork.

What works and what doesn’t

What works

  • Trademarked mechanics with names that appear openly in game titles.
  • A compact, focused library instead of a constant stream of releases.
  • Large top awards, with Duck Hunters reaching 30,000x.

What doesn’t

  • Extreme volatility brings long runs of small or zero returns.
  • Some themes are designed to provoke and will put certain players off.

Nolimit City: quick answers
