What the numbers say: thirty cells, thirty meters

Duck Hunters, a Nolimit City scatter-pays cascade slot released on 11 February 2025, makes sense once you stop looking at symbols and start looking at the board. Each of its 30 positions carries its own multiplier, and that multiplier doubles every time a winning symbol is cleared from the spot. Outside the bonus those values are wiped between spins; inside it, they are kept. Bombs, xWays and the Day 1024 booster all exist for one purpose: lifting those per-cell values further and faster.

The headline figures follow from that. Volatility rated Extreme. RTP of 96.05% at best. Wins on 17.07% of spins. A 30,000x ceiling. Most spins pay nothing at all. The rare chain that keeps cascading over the same cells can push values toward the x8192 limit per position. For anyone who likes to understand why a slot behaves as it does, this is one of the easier Nolimit City designs to read, because almost every feature feeds the same visible meter.

Why the paytable is deliberately small

There are no lines. A win needs eight or more of one regular symbol anywhere on the six reels and five rows. The commonly reported paytable looks like this: the minor symbols (among them a duck, a nest, a crossbow, a whisky bottle and a beer can) pay small fractions of the bet for eight or nine and as much as 2x for twelve or more, while the premium characters pay from 2.5x to 5x the bet for twelve or more. Overall, the smallest clusters are worth around 0.1x to 0.3x, and twelve-plus clusters around 1x to 5x.

Values step up by cluster size, so the paytable is best read from the minimum cluster upward: the first figure belongs to an eight-symbol win, the last to twelve or more. Even the best of those, 5x for a premium character, is tiny beside the 30,000x cap. Almost all of that distance is covered by the cell multipliers.

The doubling engine, step by step

The value in this game starts after a win has been paid. The sequence:

  1. Every symbol that formed the win is taken off the reels.
  2. Each cell those symbols left behind gains a x2 multiplier.
  3. Fresh symbols drop into the gaps.
  4. When a later win in that chain clears a cell already carrying a multiplier, its value doubles once more: x2 to x4, x4 to x8, and onward.
  5. No single cell can go past x8192.

Wilds stand in for regular paying symbols to help finish clusters. Bonus scatters are a separate thing and do not count toward scatter-pays wins.

On the main reels, every multiplier drops back to x1 once the spin and all its cascades are complete. Building anything worthwhile there needs a long, unbroken chain of cascades. This is where the 17.07% hit frequency bites: under one spin in five produces a win of any kind, and a run of many consecutive wins over overlapping cells is much rarer still.

Two shortcuts that push cells higher

Waiting for ordinary cascades to revisit a cell takes time, so two modifiers exist to shortcut it.

Bomb: nine cells doubled at once

A Bomb can land on the reels and goes off before the next cascade. Its blast clears every regular paying symbol in the 3×3 square around it and doubles the multiplier on each cell it touches. Scatters and Wilds survive the explosion.

In practice, a Bomb can double as many as nine cells in one go with no win required on any of them. A group of x2 cells beside a Bomb turns into x4 cells immediately, and the cleared cells then refill, possibly forming a fresh win on top of the raised values.

xWays, plain and infectious

When an xWays symbol is revealed it becomes a regular paying symbol and multiplies its own cell’s value by 2, 4 or 8. That is an instant leap on one cell rather than the gradual doubling that cascades produce.

The infectious form goes further. When it shows its symbol, all matching symbols already on the reels are infected and expand to the same size. Because any eight-plus match pays, flooding the grid with one symbol is a quick path to a qualifying cluster sitting on newly multiplied cells.

The standard version appears on the main reels. The infectious version mostly matters as a bonus upgrade, covered next.

Free spins: three rounds, graded by scatters

The number of bonus scatters sets the round. More scatters bring more spins and more guaranteed upgrades.

Multipliers that stay put

The rule that matters most: during free spins, cell multipliers carry over from one spin to the next. A cell that reaches x16 on spin one is still x16 when spin two begins. The whole round therefore becomes one continuous build, which is why the bonus holds most of the game’s upside.

A +1 Shot symbol also appears in these rounds, each adding a single free spin. Additional spins carry unusual weight in this game, since every one is another chance to land wins on multipliers already built up.

What each upgrade does

Upgrades are applied before the first spin: one at random for Duck Hunt Spins, two for Hawk Eye Spins, all three for Big Game Spins.

  • Upgraded xWays. Every standard xWays becomes infectious for the round, so each reveal spreads its symbol across the grid.
  • Upgraded Bomb. The blast grows from 3×3 to 5×5. On a board six wide and five high, a centrally placed 5×5 blast covers most of the grid.
  • Extra +2 Shots. The +1 Shot symbol is swapped for +2 Shots, so each one is worth two extra spins.

The tiers, then, are about far more than spin count. Big Game Spins opens with persistent multipliers, a near board-wide Bomb, spreading xWays and doubled spin extensions all together. No other route in the design leads as directly toward the top prize.

The buy menu, with prices

Through the xBet and bonus buy menu, Nolimit City puts a price on nearly every feature in the game. Availability varies by market; in the UK, by most accounts, the purchase options are disabled. Feature buys are commonly listed at 96.07% RTP, a hair above the top base setting.

Buying a round outright

PurchaseContentsPrice
Duck Hunt Spins7 spins with one random upgrade70x the bet
Hawk Eye Spins8 spins with two random upgrades200x the bet
Big Game Spins10 spins with all three upgrades600x the bet
Lucky DrawDuck Hunt 50%, Hawk Eye 25%, Big Game 25%235x the bet

The Lucky Draw deserves a careful read. It is priced above three Duck Hunt purchases, and in half of all draws a Duck Hunt round is what arrives. The remaining half is shared equally between Hawk Eye and Big Game. Treat it as a lottery between tiers, not as a bargain.

Boosting a single spin

These alter one spin rather than buying a round:

  • xBet, 2x the bet. Double the cost for a spin that, per Nolimit City, is five times as likely to trigger free spins.
  • Day 2 Spins, 2.8x the bet. Cells begin the spin at x2.
  • Day 64 Spins, 90x the bet. Cells begin the spin at x64.
  • Day 1024 Spins, 3,000x the bet. Cells begin the spin at x1024.

The Day boosters show the cell-meter design at its most direct. Rather than buying free spins, the player pays to skip the early doublings across the whole board. Start at x1024 and the first cascade on any cell takes it to x2048, leaving only a few steps before the x8192 cap. A price of 3,000x the bet per spin reflects how far along that puts the board.

The offer to keep the board

If a regular base spin finishes while multipliers are still showing, the game may offer one additional spin that keeps every one of those cell values. No bonus scatters appear on that spin, and the studio does not publish a set cost for it, which suits an offer whose worth depends on what remains on the grid.

Reading 96.05% alongside Extreme volatility

96.05% is the highest configuration. Over a vast number of spins the game is built to return that share of all stakes, with 3.95% kept as the long-run margin. Lower settings are widely reported, reaching down to 92.04%. The setting a platform chooses moves that long-run number but leaves rules and features untouched.

Extreme is the top rung of Nolimit City’s volatility scale. Add wins on only 17.07% of spins and the return ends up concentrated in a handful of large results. Plenty of spins return nothing, most wins are below the bet, and a rare long cascade or strong bonus makes up much of the 96.05%. A short session can end well above or well below the long-run figure, and neither RTP nor volatility predicts the next spin.

At 96.07%, the buy RTP is virtually the same as regular play. Purchasing a round does not meaningfully raise the long-run return; it simply gets a player to the volatile end of the game faster.

The road to 30,000x

Wins stop at 30,000x the bet. The base symbols cannot get anywhere near that on their own, and that gap is the clearest way to see how the top prize is built.

With the best premium cluster worth 5x, the cap needs three conditions at once:

  1. Big cell multipliers across many positions, preferably into the thousands.
  2. Large premium clusters landing on those positions.
  3. Time: sufficient spins for the first two to coincide, which is what carried-over bonus multipliers provide.

Big Game Spins tilts things as far as the design permits: 5×5 Bombs double as many as 25 cells in one blast, infectious xWays carry one symbol over boosted cells, and +2 Shots add length. Day 1024 Spins approaches the same target from the opposite side by starting every cell high. Reaching 30,000x in total closes the round there.

How the sequels change the formula

Two follow-ups have appeared, and both are published on Nolimit City’s website.

Duck Hunters: Happy Hour came out on 13 January 2026. Scatter pays stay, as do the x8192 per-cell limit and the trio of bonus rounds at 7, 8 and 10 spins. The reels change shape to 4-5-6-6-5-4, the listed RTP is 96.07%, and the top win rises to 33,333x.

Duck Hunters 2 followed on 10 September 2026 with a listed 96.00% RTP, hits on 17.68% of spins and a 40,000x top win. Cells there can climb to x16,384, double the first game’s ceiling. Reports widely mention optional side bets too, along with extra purchases aimed at xWays and Bombs. Its grid is described inconsistently, so this page does not give a size.

Next to those, the original is the plainest entry: a standard grid six wide and five high, the smallest top win of the three and the shortest list of add-ons. That makes it the best place to learn the cell-multiplier system before the sequels layer more on top.

Strong points and weak points

Strong points

  • One idea runs the whole game, since every feature works on the cell multipliers, which keeps it easy to follow.
  • All three bonus rounds keep their multipliers, making free spins one cumulative build.
  • Clearly graded rounds with stated upgrade counts and fixed purchase prices.
  • A 96.05% top RTP, with buys at 96.07%.

Weak points

  • Extreme volatility and a 17.07% hit rate make long losing runs routine.
  • Settings as low as 92.04% exist, and the active one is not always easy to spot.
  • Base symbol values are tiny, so ordinary wins feel slight without multipliers behind them.

Who will enjoy it, and who will not

Duck Hunters rewards players who are comfortable with long quiet stretches broken by rare, large results, and who prefer a visible multiplier grid to a hidden paytable. Watching a cell move from x2 to x4 to x8, and thinking about where a Bomb might land, gives a lot of information to follow, even though none of it can be influenced.

It is a poor match for anyone who wants regular small wins. With fewer than one spin in five paying and base values below the bet, there are long spells where little happens. Anyone who likes tidily paced bonuses may see the keep-the-board offers and booster list as noise rather than useful options.

Duck Hunters: quick answers

Does Duck Hunters use a 6×5 or a 5×5 grid?

Six reels by five rows. Nolimit City’s reel specification lists six reels of five, even though some prose mentions a five-by-five board.

How many matching symbols make a win?

At least eight of the same regular symbol, landing anywhere on the grid. Where they sit makes no difference.

Are position multipliers kept from one spin to the next?

Only in the bonus. On the main reels they clear when a spin’s cascades end; in all three free spins rounds they remain for the whole round.

How high can one cell’s multiplier climb?

To x8192. Each winning symbol cleared from a cell doubles that cell’s value, and a Bomb doubles every cell inside its blast.

What are the three bonus upgrades?

Upgraded xWays turns xWays into the infectious kind, Upgraded Bomb enlarges each explosion to a 5×5 area, and Extra +2 Shots means each Shot symbol worth two extra spins rather than one.

What are the odds on the Lucky Draw buy?

It costs 235x the bet and lands on Duck Hunt Spins half the time, Hawk Eye Spins a quarter of the time and Big Game Spins a quarter of the time.

What do Day 1024 Spins do?

For 3,000x the bet, the spin begins with every position multiplier set to x1024, which puts cascades only a few doublings below the x8192 ceiling.

What RTP does Duck Hunters pay?

96.05% on its top setting, with lower versions reported as low as 92.04%. Feature buys are reported at 96.07%.
