Playtech games in the SlotSpecs database

The spec sheet we hold is a blackjack table

It says something about Playtech that the one game of its on SlotSpecs is not a slot at all. It is an RNG blackjack table:

TitleCategoryRTPRelease date
Premium BlackjackBlackjack99.58%15 January 2016

Playtech is a full-range supplier rather than a pure slot studio. Besides slots it builds live dealer products, platforms, bingo, poker and the back-end systems operators run on. Its game range mirrors that breadth: linked jackpot slots, RNG tables and a regular flow of themed video slots. It is seldom the boldest name in a given category, but few suppliers cover as many.

Premium Blackjack by the numbers

The core game is dealt from six decks. The dealer stands on every 17, a blackjack pays 3:2, and up to five hands can be played each round. The 99.58% RTP is based on making the right decision on every hand. That is well above any slot on SlotSpecs, but it covers the main hand and nothing else.

Two side bets, Perfect Pairs and 21+3, are wagers in their own right, each with a separate paytable and a lower return. The game page found that the side bet RTPs usually quoted for this title in fact belong to another Playtech variant that uses eight decks. Calculated for six decks from the published paytable, Perfect Pairs works out at roughly 93.89% and 21+3 at roughly 95.38%. In short, the 99.58% headline does not cover the side bets.

Playtech does not publish a volatility rating for Premium Blackjack, so that field in our spec table is left empty.

Age of the Gods: a series joined by its jackpots

On the slot side, Age of the Gods is Playtech’s flagship franchise. What ties it together is a network of games that share one jackpot structure. When God of Storms arrived on 6 June 2017, Playtech called it the eighth game in the series, with four linked progressive jackpots that could be triggered on any spin. The game ran on five reels and 25 lines, with stacked wilds plus Wild Wind, a respin feature carrying multipliers of up to 5x.

Compare that with studios such as Pragmatic Play, which carry one grid format through a run of sequels. In Age of the Gods the common thread is the jackpot network, while the reel features are free to change from game to game.

Our demo network carries 663 Playtech titles.

Comparing RTP across a mixed catalogue

Slots, jackpot games and table games sit side by side in Playtech’s range, so their RTPs cannot be compared like for like. A blackjack figure assumes correct play and refers only to the main hand. A linked jackpot slot routes a share of every stake into the shared jackpots. We have found no Playtech document setting out how many RTP versions are supplied for each game, so we avoid general claims about lower builds. The verified figures on each game page are the ones to rely on.

From Tartu to the FTSE 250

Playtech gives 1999 and Tartu, Estonia, as its founding year and place. Tartu was its sole development centre until 2006, and Estonia remains the main base for platform development. The company says more than 700 specialists work across its Estonian offices in Tartu and Tallinn.

The corporate picture has two locations. the parent, Playtech plc, has its registered office in Douglas on the Isle of Man, where it is incorporated, while a 2025 stock exchange announcement gives its head office and business address as MidCity Place, High Holborn, London. Shares trade on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange as PTEC, and the company is a member of the FTSE 250. It says its licences come from the Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission.

The investor site splits the group into platform, gaming, betting and services, with gaming taking in casino, live, poker, bingo and retail.

Where Playtech fits, and where it doesn’t

Playtech is a good choice if you want a traditional table game with plain rules, or if a jackpot shared across a whole series appeals. It is a weaker choice if you want cutting-edge, high-volatility grid mechanics, which belong more to Hacksaw Gaming and Nolimit City.

The case for and against

For

  • A wide range spanning slots, table games and live products.
  • Premium Blackjack’s main hand returns 99.58% when played correctly.
  • A long-running jackpot series built on one shared structure.

Against

  • Side bets on the tables return far less than the headline figure.
  • With so many products, a single design identity is hard to pin down.
