A studio best read series by series
Most studios are easiest to understand through their spec sheets. Play'n GO is easiest to understand through its characters. The Reactoonz aliens, the Moon Princesses and Rich Wilde keep coming back, and each new appearance alters the rules while the faces stay the same. Find a series that suits you and there is normally a sequel with a twist on the rules. That structure makes a large catalogue unusually simple to explore.
SlotSpecs does not list any Play'n GO titles at present. Our demo network holds 495 of them, so this page covers the studio and its series rather than individual game pages.
The five series to know
The studio’s series page sets out a clear formula: a world, a cast and a single core mechanic, which later games then extend.
Wilde. Rich Wilde travels the globe with his daughter Cat and Uncle Gerard. The opening title, Book of Dead, is built on expanding symbols in free spins: one symbol is picked for the round and spreads across entire reels when enough copies land. The series has since drifted from that template. Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead, described by Play'n GO as the 17th Wilde instalment, drops paylines altogether: it uses a 5×5 cluster-pays grid where wilds carry multipliers.
Dead. Legacy of Dead and Scroll of Dead stand apart from Rich Wilde’s own adventures. They hold on to the Egyptian setting and the basic plan of free spins with one expanding symbol.
Reactoonz. Cascades and cluster pays on a 7×7 grid. Winning groups vanish, replacements drop in, and every chain reaction charges a meter that can set off special features. The same setting returns in Reactoonz 2, Energoonz and Dr Toonz.
Moon Princess. Cascading symbols on a 5×5 grid, plus the Girl Power feature. Follow-ups include Power of Love, Christmas Kingdom and Moon Princess 100.
GEMIX and Rise of Olympus. GEMIX runs cluster pays on a 7×7 grid spread over three worlds. In Rise of Olympus, free spins start with a choice of Zeus, Poseidon or Hades, and each god adds a different bonus.
Line slots versus cascading grids
Almost everything in the range belongs to one of two design types. Type one is the 5×3 line game with an expanding symbol, the Book of Dead model. It is easy to follow, because you are watching for one feature and one special symbol. Type two is the big cascading grid seen in Reactoonz, GEMIX and Moon Princess. There the value comes from chain reactions spreading across the grid, which makes it harder to judge how a spin is going until it finishes.
Knowing which type you prefer is the quickest way through the catalogue. A series name tells you more about how a game plays than its theme does.
What the studio publishes on RTP
Every game page on Play'n GO’s website lists an RTP and a volatility rating. We have not seen any studio-wide statement on how many RTP versions are supplied, so we make no general claims about lower settings. When Play'n GO games arrive on SlotSpecs, each will carry its own verified figures.
Roots in Växjö, licences and reach
The company traces its origins to Växjö in Sweden, where it was founded, and has backed the city’s ice hockey team, Växjö Lakers, for over a decade. Johan Törnqvist is co-founder and chief executive.
Published founding dates do not agree, so we leave that field blank. Speaking to iGaming Business, Törnqvist described building for mobile from the mid-2000s, before smartphones were widespread.
Published licence details:
- Great Britain: account 55949 with the UK Gambling Commission.
- Malta: MGA/B2B/225/2012, issued by the Malta Gaming Authority.
- Gibraltar: RGL No. 131, from the Gibraltar Licensing Authority.
Registered offices are given as Valletta, Malta, and Gibraltar. The studio says it operates in over 35 jurisdictions and has over 400 titles.
The right player for these games
These games reward players who enjoy following characters or a storyline from one release to the next. They also work well if you want to set a classic line game against a grid game from the same studio. Players who only want the latest mechanics may find some older entries in the series dated.
Plus points and minus points
Plus points
- Tidy, well-organised series built on recurring characters.
- A mix of straightforward line games and cascading grids.
- Licence details are published on the studio’s own site.
Minus points
- The expanding-symbol idea repeats across many titles, the Egyptian ones in particular.
- No titles are on SlotSpecs yet, so side-by-side comparison is not possible here.
