What the spec sheet says: a fruit machine with one engine
On paper Golden Winner is a modest set of numbers. A 5×3 grid with ten fixed lines, a top RTP of 94.5% and Medium volatility, with the top prize set as a cash amount rather than a multiple of the stake. The symbols are straight from a pub fruit machine: sevens, BARs and fruit. Inspired released it online on 7 July 2023, and the base game is deliberately plain.
The reason those numbers still add up to an interesting game is a single symbol in the bonus. The golden bell does two things whenever it lands. It gathers the values printed on every cherry in view, and it pushes a 12-step trail forward. The trail adds spins and lifts the multiplier on cherries. Everything that makes the game worth studying comes from that loop, and it can be understood without a long rules page.

Free spins: bells, cherries and a twelve-step trail
Since the bonus holds most of the game’s value, it is the place to begin.
Entry
Bonus scatters anywhere on the base reels open the round:
| Bonus scatters landed | Opening spins |
|---|---|
| Five | 20 |
| Four | 15 |
| Three | 10 |
Inspired’s page says the round begins with at least 10 free spins, which lines up with the three-scatter award.
Cherries carry the prizes
Inside the round, cherries display values, widely reported as anything from 1x to 100x the stake each. A valued cherry pays nothing by itself. It sits on the reels waiting for a bell.
Bells collect and advance
The golden bell is both the Wild and the collector. In Inspired’s description, bells collect all the values from the golden cherries on screen. The moment a bell lands, every cherry value then visible is added up and paid.
Alongside paying, the bell advances the trail one step. This is the heart of the design: one symbol pays now and makes later spins better at once.
Stages and what each one unlocks
The trail holds 12 steps in three stages, so a stage completes on every fourth bell. Each completed stage does two things:
- Adds 10 free spins.
- Lifts the multiplier on cherry values.
The multiplier moves to 2x, then 3x, then 10x. Counting bells through a round:
| Bell count | Event | Cherry multiplier afterwards |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Cherries gathered at face value | 1x |
| 4th | Stage one done, +10 spins | 2x |
| 8th | Stage two done, +10 spins | 3x |
| 12th | Stage three done, +10 spins | 10x |
The bells that raise the multiplier are the same bells that add spins, so a filling trail tends to lengthen the round just as it becomes most valuable. A round that reaches the third stage carries at least 30 spins beyond its opening award, and every bell from then on gathers cherries at ten times face value.
Why the loop outweighs the paytable
The best base-game line pays 200x, for five red sevens or five bells. Third-stage collections can pass that easily: one screen with a handful of mid-value cherries, gathered by a bell at 10x, mounts up fast. That is the main road toward the top prize, and you will not find it outside free spins.
Between bonuses: sevens, BARs and fruit on ten lines
Away from free spins, Golden Winner behaves like the cabinet it comes from. Wins run left to right on 10 fixed lines. The commonly published paytable, as multiples of the stake, reads as follows, here ordered from the shortest win to the longest:
| Symbol | Two | Three | Four | Five |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red 7 or Golden Bell | 0.5x | 5x | 20x | 200x |
| Blue 7 | – | 3x | 15x | 100x |
| BARs | – | 2x | 10x | 50x |
| Golden Cherries | – | 1x | 5x | 20x |
| Fruit (berries, oranges, plums, grapes, watermelon, cherries) | – | 0.5x | 2.5x | 10x |
Three details are worth noting:
- Red sevens and bells tie for the top line value, and they alone pay for just two on a line.
- Golden cherries have a line value of their own, up to 20x, quite apart from the values they carry in the bonus. Inspired’s page presents them as a mixed-pay symbol for line wins.
- All six fruits share a single row of values, which keeps the table short.
The left side of the table shows what an average spin is like. Three of most fruits pay 0.5x, so a lone small line win gives back half the stake. Finishing a spin in profit needs a better symbol, for instance 2x from three BARs or 3x from three blue sevens, or several lines at once. Five of a kind is rare on any fruit-machine layout, so the 200x line figure says far less about the game’s character than the bonus does.
Optional modes: Fortune Bet, Fortune Spins and Gamble
In some jurisdictions Inspired offers two optional variants, Fortune Bet and Fortune Spins, as well as a Gamble feature. Each pushes the game a different way.
Fortune Bet: pay more, trigger more
Every spin costs 50% more. In exchange, the reels carry stacked, oversized Bonus scatters, so free spins start more often; reports widely put the trigger rate at double. Most descriptions also say the mode can reach as many as 50 free spins, which equals a five-scatter start of 20 plus 10 from each of the three trail stages. You are paying for easier access to the trail, not for a different trail.
Fortune Spins: the bonus engine in the base game
This separate mode strips most standard symbols off the reels, leaving cherries, Bonus scatters and wild bells. With no fruit, sevens or BARs in the way, the reels act much more like the bonus, with bells landing and gathering cherry values directly. Inspired describes the same mode in the sequel as one that “enhances the bonus hit rate”, and the Golden Winner version is widely described in the same terms.
Gamble: risk a win for a bigger one
After a qualifying win, commonly given as 5x the stake or higher, you can stake that win on a Gamble. Descriptions call it a pie or wheel game offering two prizes, a larger award or free spins, and the risk of losing the win outright. As with any gamble step, it does not tilt the long-run return toward you. It swaps a certain amount for an uncertain one.
Two return settings and a Medium rating
The game ships in two settings, 94.5% and 92%. Across a very large number of spins, the first is built to pay back 94.5% of all money staked and the second 92%, a difference of 2.5 points of total turnover. Rules, features and paytable look identical; the gap is in how often things land.
A top figure of 94.5% sits below the 96% area many online slots target. That reflects Golden Winner’s retail fruit-machine heritage, where lower returns are normal, and it is worth remembering when setting the game beside other online titles.
Medium volatility spreads the return more evenly than a high-volatility game would: more frequent small line wins, fewer long dry runs, and the bell trail delivering the larger results. The rating is Inspired’s own. Some listings show High; we follow the studio. Neither RTP nor volatility tells you anything about the next spin.
The prize cap and the route toward it
Some listings quote a top win of 2,500x or 2,777x the stake, but neither figure comes from Inspired. Inspired’s own materials quote the ceiling as a set amount, not a stake multiple, which means the reachable multiple shifts with the stake you choose. Some listings quote a slightly different multiple for that reason, but the path to the top is unchanged.
Getting near it relies on the trail:
- Start free spins, ideally with four or five scatters for 15 or 20 opening spins.
- Complete trail stages, each one topping up the spin count.
- Get to the third stage, where the multiplier on cherries is 10x.
- During those spins, land a bell when several big cherries are showing.
Each cherry can be worth up to 100x, so totals swell fastest at the final stage. The prize cap sets the limit on how far a single sequence can run.
The sequel and the wider Winner range
The game grew into an Inspired franchise. Its direct follow-up appears on the studio’s own website.
Golden Winner Grand Chance
Inspired presents Grand Chance as the successor. It went live online at the end of May 2025 in the UK, Gibraltar and MGA markets. Inspired later called it its most successful UK and European iGaming launch ever, quoting more than 200,000 unique players, 40% of players coming back each week and 25% retention on day one. It arrived on UK retail machines later in 2025.
Carried over from the original:
- A 5×3 grid with 10 lines.
- RTP settings of 92% and 94.5%.
- Free spins from three or more Bonus symbols, up to 20.
- A 12-position bell trail in three upgrade stages.
- Fortune Bet, Fortune Spins and Gamble.
New in the sequel:
- Grand Chance Cherry, which appears in the Bonus and in Fortune Spins and reveals a prize pot; Inspired’s product page gives a potential of up to 250x the stake.
- Bell announcements that may arrive in any mode and bring either a guaranteed win or upgraded symbols.
- Gold bar stacking, a route into a separate bonus of as many as 15 free spins.
- A bigger Gamble that can multiply wins by up to 10x or award 30 free spins.
- A bonus buy giving direct entry to the bonus.
The contrast is simple. The original is the lean version, with one bonus loop, no buy and no added modifiers. Grand Chance keeps the bell trail and surrounds it with several side routes.
More from the range
Inspired also lists Piggy Winner and Golden Halloween Winner, grouping them with the first two games among the titles UK players choose most. Two reskins of the Grand Chance format followed: Golden Horsey Winner Grand Chance and Centurion Winner Grand Chance.
Who it suits
Players who enjoy classic fruit-machine symbols and short, clear rules. Tracking the bonus takes no effort, since the only things to follow are bells landed and the stage reached. With Medium volatility and lots of low line pays, sessions tend to run more evenly than in most current slots.
It suits RTP-first players less well, as 94.5% trails many online titles and a 92% setting also exists. If a bonus buy or layered extras matter to you, the sequel is the better pick.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- A single readable loop: each bell gathers cherries and advances the multiplier trail together.
- Each trail stage brings 10 more spins as the multiplier climbs toward 10x.
- Medium volatility with plenty of small line wins.
- Fortune Bet and Fortune Spins let you choose how often the bonus engine shows up.
Limits
- A top RTP of 94.5% is low for online play, and a 92% setting exists.
- Very little happens in the base game; nearly all the variety is in free spins.
- The top prize is quoted only as a fixed cash amount, not as a multiple of the stake.

Inspired’s official page rates it Medium.
What starts the free spins?
Three, four or five Bonus scatters, which award 10, 15 or 20 spins respectively.

How does Grand Chance differ from the original?
It keeps the 5×3 grid and the bell trail, and layers on extras: a bonus buy, an expanded Gamble, gold bar stacking, bell announcements and the Grand Chance Cherry with its prize pot.
